Le CiNeMa Club is a French film club that has been operating since 2006. It has been founded by actress, Yorgos Lanthimos, director, Gus Van Sant, and writer, Andrea Arnold. This year they are hosting a number of events in Paris to celebrate the best in contemporary cinema. Here’s a preview of what you can expect.

Gus Van Sant

Gus Van Sant is a legendary director who has  giveme5 taken independent cinema to a new level. His films explore unromanticized love relationships. He has also challenged Hollywood’s filmmaking structures.

When he was in his twenties, Van Sant lived in New York, where he studied photography. During this time, he met filmmakers like Jim Jarmusch and Spike Lee. These filmmakers were a big part of his influence. And, as a writer, he is influenced by fellow Beats such as Jack Kerouac and William S. Burroughs.

Van Sant was fascinated by the plight of the marginalized section of L.A., particularly on Hollywood Boulevard. This inspired him to make Alice in Hollywood in 1981, a film about a naive young actress in Los Angeles.

Then, he worked in advertising, and saved up $20,000 to help finance his next film. He moved to Portland, Oregon, in 1983. From there, he began to make film, first for television, then for the screen.

Andrea Arnold

Andrea Arnold has a small but impressive filmography. She’s made four features and a handful of shorts. Her first feature, Red Road, won accolades. It’s also her most autobiographical movie. But even with that, the real debauchery happened off-set.

In her second feature, Fish Tank, she’s not afraid to go where no one else has gone. She shoots it in a bus that travels the country for a magazine crew.

In her fourth, American Honey, she goes a little bit further. This is a road trip she took from Oklahoma to North Dakota. And she did it with her two kids on board taylorsource.

While she’s not a political spokesman, she does make some points along the way. Like her predecessor Ken Loach, Arnold is concerned with the treatment of working class people. Not only that, but she’s a master of the art of observation.

What’s more, Arnold’s camera isn’t just about the scenery; it’s about the characters. From the start of the film, we get a sense that Arnold isn’t merely recording what is on screen. Instead, she’s capturing the chemistry and personalities of her crew.

Yorgos Lanthimos

Lanthimos is a Greek director. His work has won him a few awards, including a Best Foreign Film Academy Award and a Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival. He is also a writer.

Lanthimos has been known to make a few short films and music videos. In fact, he has been directing experimental theater plays and commercials since the mid-1990s. Yorgos is probably one of the most prolific younger filmmakers in Greece.

He has an impressive list of credits to his name, which includes his latest film, The Favourite. Lanthimos is also the man behind the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens. Interestingly, he has worked with a number of Greek dance-theater companies.

Lanthimos has a penchant for wide-angle optics. One of his best known features is his cinematography. Typically, he places his films in dreamlike settings with minimal scenery. This can leave the viewer with a sense of emptiness naukri24pk.

Jennifer Forrest
